One of the best modern painters in the world, Maqbool Fida Husain, has passed away. He breathed his last in a London hospital at the ripe age of 95 following a cardiac arrest. This world renowned painter, whose paintings often fetched a very high price at various painting auctions, was also much noted for works which often seriously annoyed many people and groups -- such as the Shiv Sena and the Bajrang Dal.

Some of the such groups even went on to issue threats to the painter forcing him to leave the country and settle abroad. He also made a film with his famous heroine Madhuri Dixit. It made the heroine a lot more famous and also revealed the painter’s fascination for beautiful faces. The Piccaso of India, Hussain, later fell in love with Tabu and Amrita Rao. On Tabu also he made a film, which bombed like the one he had made earlier on Madhuri.

It is definitely a heart warming news and one thing is definite Allah will put him in hell.
I am not going to shed a tear for this guy. Didn't like him.
Its a disgrace for India that one of our most eminent painter had to spend his last days in exile.
The saffron Jokers of Jokepal are responsible for the fascism in India !!!
He was a bloody traitor and enemy of Sanatan Dharm. He threw dirt on our faith and will burn in the hell..
Well, some of his actions and activities had indeed left a bad taste.

We have a saying in our beloved Incredible India. "Bandar ke haath mey naareeal" or a cocconut in the hands of a monkey.

It is disgusting that Indians who are  mostly half educated have no conception of arts and culture. By any account, Hussain was the greatest artist modern India produced. A genius and trail blazer, his works are treasure in any society, except |India. For Indians, his paintings are like monkey's cocconut. Half educated people can be forgiven for treating a genius like that. It was a shame to India that the artist changed his nationality. I was sad but I approved of his action on many grounds. Since when India recognised talent ? It has always forced the national treasures and talent to emigrate to foreign shores.

When a nation hounds its greatest cultural icon, it reveals to the world its cultural bankruptsy.

Surely, average Indians with IQ under 30 can not be expected to understand and appreciate art in any form. Used to "Calender Paintings" and cinema poster painting, they can not be expected to understand painting of Hussain and Shergil.

He painted Sita in the nude with Hanuman and Maa Durga in bad light with animals. His paintings cannot be shown to children as they are xxx rated. Its more than just a bad taste in the mouth.

Go and update your knowledge, Kajuraho painting is not about god and goddess. Anyway, if you are so generous then why do not you give your family picture to paint nude and when get painted and ready for viewing then do invite us we will also come and have fun..... I hope you would not mind it because you are a free thinker... Do not say that female member in your family are respected and not available for nude painting then it will be " Apne Fazihat Aur Dushre Ko Nasihat "....

All those who support hussain nude painting of our deity by MF Basta**** Hussain must send their own female family member's picture to me and i will get it nude painted by a very very famous painter from Patna and will put it for display on You Bihar. I want to see how many are there to support this bihari painter and do not differenciate when it comes to own family. Shame on you all, if you all are men of word then send me the picture or i will give you the painter address and i am very sure that he is more capable painter than MF Basta**** Hussain. Even most of the muslim condemn his act and due no body come for his supported when he was booted out from the country. DO NOT PREACH WHAT YOU CAN NOT PRACTICE...

NO HARD FEELING... I JUST WANT TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH....

Your views are pretty strong but they seem to have some merit.

I am no authority on modern art and I confess i don't have any understanding of it. But here we need to understand few points-

1. M.F.Hussain was not M.F. Hussain because he painted nude pictures, his paintings (nude or otherwise) sold for crores.Hussain did not paint explicit nudity as they show in porn movies.

2. Nudity is not synonym for vulgarity. Something that is nude not necessarily be vulgar and vice versa.

A fully clad woman may look erotic and even vulgar to someone and a nude female may not.For example, a destitute female on street with her clothes torn and her body parts visible can not incite eroticism in a sane mind rather it will  evoke pity and sympathy.

Similarly a fully clad woman may look vulgar with the way she carries her off in what she is wearing. So, it depends on perception of individuals too.

3. Modern art is about subtlety, the message that artist want to convey is hidden with deep meaning. When Hussain painted Hindu deities in nude, I am sure he did not do it mischievously. If painting nude female anatomy got crores, all roadside artists would have been billionaires. So, it's hard to believe that MF did it deliberately to hurt Hindu sentiments.

4. Most of his controversial paintings were done in the seventies, which no one noticed during then, when few of those got published in one of the magazines in recent past people got to know it was MF's work.

5. Some vested interests from right wing gave it communal colour as MF being a Muslim. If he was a Hindu, probably he would have got away with it.

6. MF was very down to earth person. He came from a very humble background and he never forgot his roots. He would just walk down to Irani restaurants in Mumbai for bun maska and cutting chai. He used to walk on streets of Mumbai without chappals and he loved his country to the hilt.

7. I again reiterate I have no understanding of modern art and don't know as to what art MF was trying to convey through nude paintings of Hindu deities, but I feel he is not communal and he would not have any intentions to hurt any religious sentiments.

8. One also has to understand as to who is the target audience of his type of paintings? Certainly not those who gyrate on risque numbers of bollywood movies. His paintings were for the upper class and intellectuals people who would judge and understand such art without being biased.Hence he dared make such paintings.

If his audience were middle and lower class people who travel by local train, he would not have in his wildest of dreams done this.

9. Finally,If I were MF , I would have tried to explain my view on the controversy , I would rather have gone on to say sorry also if my deed have hurt anyone's sentiments inadvertently. But he decided to kepp a mum on the subject. May be he did not know how to handle it or did not feel its worth explaining.

10. May GOD REST HIS SOUL IN PEACE!!! India should be proud of this great artist.
